A Letter from Mr. Lincoln

Letters to President Lincoln

"Bravo and thank you for traveling to Palm Beach County, Florida to share your remarkable knowledge and gift of effective and engaging communication of that knowledge to hundreds of diverse individuals of all ages. Thank you for your outstanding programs for three diverse groups of school children, The Palm Beach Town Committee, and The Boca Raton Friends of the Library. Your granular knowledge and deep understanding of the life, heart, and mind of Abraham Lincoln and his family combined with your unique ability to communicate so effectively are true gifts to all who are privileged to experience one of your programs. I do hope to enjoy another of your presentations as each of the three I've heard included such different insights into Mr. Lincoln's life and legacy. In your final presentation with "the mud prints on the ceiling" [Lincoln's youth] and [through the time sequence progression into his years as President] with the thorough discussion of the genesis and passage of the Thirteenth Amendment were most memorable. Your examples of future achievement for our youth [today] and interacting with the children in the audience were excellent. So much content was shared with hundreds of very lucky individuals, who received unique reenactments tailored for their specific group. On behalf of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Florida Palm Beach Town Committee, thank you for sharing President Abraham Lincoln throughout Palm Beach County. (Millicent E. Duvall, Chairman, National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Florida, Palm Beach Town Committee)

"Mr. Boggs you are a very special man; Spirit is using you to make the world a better place in which to live. I have been producing public programs since 1972, and you are one of the few people who have moved me to tears. What you do with the children is priceless. I told my education coordinator about you, because I want to invite you back again to work with students. It is indeed a pleasure and honor to know you." (Dorothy Green, Director of Public Programs & Education, Historical Society of Washington, D.C.)

"I want to express my gratitude for allowing our students to hear Abraham Lincoln's story today. It was an amazing and thought provoking presentation! Our 5th grade students were so engaged. We not only learned a lot about our history, but also the difference that students can make in the future. Please pass my gratitude along to all those involved in making this a reality." (Angela Everitt, Reading Specialist, Billingsville Elementary Leadership Academy, Charlotte, North Carolina)

"The Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum of Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tennessee, has worked with Dennis Boggs for a number of years. His presentations are completely on-target; however his knowledge of Abraham Lincoln is of much more importance. His ability to discuss Lincoln's life is outstanding, as is his ability to tell Lincoln's story to visitors and students. Without Mr. Boggs' long-time efforts to so thoroughly learn about the life of our Sixteenth President, much of our programming would be lacking some elements of interest to both adults and students. Although I have seen students' reaction to President Lincoln for a number of years now, - thanks to Dennis - it never fails to amaze me! As he talks about Lincoln's life - from the log cabin to the White House - their interest never wavers. He is without a doubt, a treasure for our state, and we are grateful for his friendship and his knowledge of President Lincoln's life. (Carol Campbell, Program Director, Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum, Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tennessee)

"As we finally complete our fourteen months of programs, events, observances and commemorations of the 150th Anniversaries of the campaigns and siege of Vicksburg, I wanted to take this opportunity to express my gratitude and that of my staff at Vicksburg National Military Park for making our Sesquicentennial such a successful, enjoyable, and memorable endeavor. One of the best received and most popular events of the past year was our 'Vicksburg Heritage Fair.' We are still hearing comments and compliments of how your portrayal of Abraham Lincoln played a major role in making the event the success it was. Your oratory and Mr. Lincoln's words truly brought to life this facet of "living history" and gave our 21st Century audiences a sample of what it would have been like to hear President Lincoln speak 150 years ago. In the concerts and workshops, you educated, entertained, and delighted all in attendance. Again, please accept our sincere thanks for your participation in our Heritage Fair and the Vicksburg Sesquicentennial, and for making the event such a special one." (R. Michael Madell, Superintendent, United States Department of Interior, National Park Service, Vicksburg National Military Park)

"I would like to thank you for supporting our "Salute to Our Veterans" at Vanderbilt University. Your presence and especially your speech was so inspirational to everyone. My friends have been talking about your performance for weeks. If there is anything that I can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact me." (Ray Sumner, Captain, United States Marine Corp, Retired)

"Thank you for sharing Mr. Lincoln with us! On behalf of Mill Springs Battlefield Association, I want to tell you how much we enjoyed your presentations. You are a Master Presenter, and I admire and appreciate what you do." (Jack Keeney, Mill Springs Battlefield Association, Nancy, Kentucky)

"We appreciate your sharing with TTCN Agape Sunday School Class along with a host of friends. Your presentation makes the group feel like we are in the presence of 'Mr. Lincoln.' God is using your talent in incredible ways. Our prayer is the 'He' will continue to use you." (Trevecca Community Church, Trevecca Nazarene University, Nashville, Tennessee)

"Thank you so much for another outstanding presentation at Fort Negley. Your ability to make Abraham Lincoln come 'alive' is remarkable, and we greatly appreciate you participating in the Gettysburg Address Event. Thank you for making the day so special and so memorable." (Krista Castillo, Museum Coordinator at Metro Government / Parks / Fort Negley Visitors Center)

"On my first meeting Mr. Boggs, I was struck by the amazing physical resemblance to our 16th President, but the dynamic of his presentation exceeds his appearance. He has extraordinary knowledge of that phase of American history and presents material that will be indelibly imprinted on the minds of listeners both young and old. Administrators will serve their students well by having 'Mr. Lincoln' speak to them." (President Millard Reed, Trevecca Nazarene University, Nashville, Tennessee)

"You made a visit to my daughter's school, and she came home so excited. You made history come to life for her. I also learned a few things from her that I don't remember being taught when I was going to school. So many thanks for all you do. Keep doing what you do. Wish I could have been there, but with what my daughter told me, it was like I was there. She told me how much you looked like Mr. Lincoln, that I looked up your name, and the likeness is amazing. So again, thank you from a grateful parent." (Parent of a Student, Westmoreland Middle School, Westmoreland, Tennessee)

"Let me begin by saying that I am truly a fortunate man to have met your acquaintance, indeed. You are not only a masterful Abraham Lincoln, and I say that without reservation or equivocation, but you also a most engaging and personable man. Your conviction to historical authenticity, your engaging humor, your personable eye contact, your graciousness for the people you meet and your chivalrous proclivities all are traits which we attribute to Mr. Lincoln but are firmly embodied in you. I left with the strongest conviction that if anyone were needing an 'Abraham Lincoln Presenter,' my reply would be, "All others would be frauds in comparison to Mr. Dennis Boggs!" You sir are just that good! I also appreciated afterwards, you sharing the story of your personal journey of becoming Lincoln.  I appreciate you more than you know and hope our paths will cross again." (Bill Grimmette, Executive Director, 100 Black Men of Maryland, Inc.)

"Thank you for your wonderful presentation at our library! You made such a great impression that many people said that they would be attending every event in our 'Lincoln at the Library' series, and I attribute much of that to your grand performance. I also appreciate the educational element that you bring to your audiencences, which is such an important aspect of what our library strives to achieve. We have posted several photos on our Facebook page (see link below). Thank you for helping us to have such a successful kick-off event!" (Abby L. Carpenter, MLIS, Adult Services Manager, Florence-Lauderdale Public Library, Florence, Alabama)

"Mr. Lincoln... From all of us at The King's Academy THANK YOU! Your presentation was phenonmenal. You certainly know how to make learning fun and memorable. Very much appreciated. (Kim Smith, Fifth Grade Teacher, The King's Academy, West Palm Beach, Florida)

"Your portrayal of President Lincoln at the Battle of Nashville on Saturday was so compelling and believable that I had tears in my eyes. I was going to talk to you, but I was so speechless (which rarely happens) that I couldn't even speak. I have read many things about Lincoln, and you have done him a great honor with your mannerisms, voice, and kindness. Thank you for keeping his greatness alive. (Sue Kauflie, Mount Juliet, Tennessee)

"I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed meeting you, and more so, getting to know you. I learned more from you about Abe Lincoln in the past three days than I have learned since age 5, and I am now 58 years old. It was an honor serving you this past weekend." (Commander Woody Bollinger, Fleet Chaplain, National Civil War Naval Museum, USS/CSS WATER WITCH, Gulf Coast Living History Association)

"Thank you for the wonderful program. I never get tired of hearing you, as I always learn something new.  The thing that I like most about you (and there are many wonderful qualities to like) is that it's quite obvious that you consider your ability to "be" Mr. Lincoln a privilege. You are so talented, sincere, and informative. I know that Mr. Lincoln is smiling down on you. Keep up the great and much needed work of making history come alive for people of all ages."  (Anita Smith, Title I Consulting Teacher, Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools, Tennessee)

"Thank you for helping to make our event a success. Your program is invaluable. We are looking very forward to working with you again." (Krista Castillo, Museum Specialist, Fort Negley Visitors Centers, Nashville Metro Parks, and Paul Widman, Assistant Director of Nashville Metro Parks & Recreation and Co-Director of the Nashville Collaborative)

"It was a great opportunity for the students and faculty to witness a piece of 'living history' as you adopted the role of Abraham Lincoln. Your presentation provides an effective avenue to understanding the present and the future through past events." (President Milton Sewell, Freed-Hardeman University, Henderson, Tennessee)

"I just want to thank you so very much for helping to make "Blue & Gray Days" a success! You are such a joy to work with, and you bring something very special to the event every year. Thank you for helping to keep history alive!" (Tara Danley, Group Tour Manager, Carnton Plantation & Battlefield, Franklin, Tennessee)

"I want to express my sincere appreciation for your work. You do an incredible job." (Jim Bryson, State Senator, Tennessee Legislature)

Meet Mr. Lincoln is an excellent portrayal of American History! Our students gained not only insight into the life and times of Abraham Lincoln, but also an appreciation for the significance of the Civil War. Rest assured that your integrity has secured our confidence and future business. Thank you for a most memorable presentation." (John Ensor, Principal, Davidson Middle School, Crestview, Florida)

"As a member of the audience, it was difficult to remember that you were not actually Mr. Lincoln talking to us about your childhood, your four sons and your years in politics. Your dialogue was rich with information and genuine in delivery, and all members of your audience were mesmerized the entire time. It was truly an experience of a lifetime." (Denise Tillery, Principal, Wake Forest Elementary Magnet School, Wake Forest, North Carolina)

"Truly your delivery made the character come alive for all of us in the audience and President Lincoln became much more than a former President we read about, he became a man with real emotions, struggles and trials.  The values of hard work, education, fair play and commitment to principle rippled throughout the presentation.  Students, faculty, and administrators immediately connected the parallels of yesterday and today.  Students today require more stimulation than a teacher and a text.  You provided the type of interaction no video game could match.  History truly became real for the hour you spoke.  Keep up this outstanding work which I know is the culmination of many hours of research and study.  I highly recommend you and your presentation to any group." (Charles Lea, Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Volunteer State Community College, Gallatin, Tennessee)

"I just had to write you and say a heartfelt thank you for your presentation. I have heard so much positive feedback from our faculty and staff. You are truly an inspiration to everyone who hears you speak." (Dr. Steve Peery, Supervisor Huntingdon Special School District, Huntingdon, Tennessee)

"As a former high school teacher and teacher-educator, I highly recommend 'Meet Mr. Lincoln' for groups of all ages. The substance and style of Dennis Boggs' portrayal brings history alive and is a superb motivator for school audiences."  (Ron Partin, Professor Emeritus, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio)

"You do an incredile job of presenting the greatest American. Meet Mr. Lincoln is one of the best programs I have ever seen. It is carefully resounded, accurate, and delivered with the character that we would imagine true to our 16th President." (Henry T. Honeycutt, Teacher of English, Northwest High School, Tunnel Hill, Georgia)

"Knowledge is power, and you encourage students to expand their minds through books, and that makes you every librarian's friend! Thank you so much for all of your hard work that makes history come alive!" (Kim Wattenbarger, N.C.E. Librarian)

"You brought President Abraham Lincoln to life to a group of educational leaders from Gordon County, Georgia.  Mr. Lincoln spoke with authority, with sincerity, and with passion. His message of hope, of family, the value of education and placing the needs of others above self was inspiring. All believed they had been in the presence of the 16th President of the United States himself. Each principal left looking forward to having Mr. Lincoln share history with their students, faculty, and staff. Thank you for your visit and your gift of leadership." (Mike Stanton, Superintendent, Gordon County Schools, Georgia)

"Thank you for a wonderful and meaningful rendition of President Abraham Lincoln for the 'Leadership Donelson-Hermitage Community Leaders.' They were so appreciative and extremely impressed with your indepth knowledge as shown throughout the presentation. Thank you for your help in making this a positive day for Metro Schools." (Lenna Allen, Principal, Andrew Jackson School, Nashville, Tennessee)

"Your ability to hold the students' attention is outstanding. I don't think my students moved at all throughout the entire performance. I applaud your skill in capturing the attention of such a wide age range for that length of time. The content that is communicated to the students goes far beyond what is normally accomplished in that amount of time. Thank you for all you did at our school that day, both for me personally and the students." (Alana Faircloth, Second Grade Teacher, Wake Forest Elementary Magnet School, Wake Forest, North Carolina)

"Mr. Lincoln came on our campus this semester and completely amazed all who were in attendance!! His profound knowledge of Abraham Lincoln's life coupled with his ability to communicate and capture the imagination of the audience is something my students won't soon forget!!" (Dr. Jon Burch, Trevecca Nazarene University, Nashville, Tennessee)

"Your portrayal of a great 'President' was magnificent. Your inspirational, informative, and entertaining presentation enabled our teachers to explore the development and ultimate impact of one of our nation's greatest leaders. The role of a leader in helping others develop character, learn the value of hard work and determination, experience a sense of patriotism, and adapt to change, was reinforced through your historical portrayal." (Barbara Smith, Department of Education, State of Tennessee)

"You presented Mr. Lincoln's life both factually and as an inspirational story that was not only entertaining and educational, but also uplifting to each student and teacher. Thank you for sharing this powerful story with us." (Kathy Dorris, History Teacher, Springfield Middle School, Springfield, Tennessee)

"The overwhelming response to 'Abraham Lincoln' was one of awe, incredulity, and fascination. As Mr. Lincoln, you represent integrity, character, and strength. These noble qualities have encouraged Americans to cherish Abraham Lincoln for over one hundred years." (Sedonna Prater, Assistant Principal, Sacred Heart Cathedral School, Knoxville, Tennessee)

"Meet Mr. Lincoln" gave a concise and informative look into the background and aspirations of a simple Illinois attorney whom through hard work and dignity managed to reach our nation's higest office. Mr. Lincoln is engaging and witty in his descriptions of 19th Century life, and he has a strong, uplifting message to share with today's youth." (Joseph Bellas, Social Studies Instructor, Tipp City Exempted Village Schools, Tipp City, Ohio)

"You more than exceeded our expectations as you presented the life of Abraham Lincoln. The time you spend in study of the life of the 16th President is so very obvious. As you make your presentations, you make history 'come alive' for those who hear you." (Joan Hartman, Lauderdale County Board of Education, Lauderdale County, Tennessee)

"Thank you so much for your dynamic presentation of President Lincoln and bringing history to life. It was a very memorable experience for our students and has been spoken of fondly for the past several weeks. I hope to see you return soon. In addition, I hope that other high schools will realize the positive impact of this presentation." (Dawn Walters, History Teacher, White House High School, White House, Tennessee)

"Your realistic portrayal of Mr. Lincoln and the educational and entertaining manner in which you delivered your message was an inspiration to students and staff alike, not to mention the uncanny resemblance you have with our 16th President. I have received nothing but positive comments regarding the performance, and I highly recommend this program to any school considering it." (Yvonne Kittrell, Principal, Rutland Elementary School, Mt. Juliet, Tennessee)

"The 'Meet Mr. Lincoln' program is professional, historical, authentic, and well-received. Dennis Boggs is the finest Abraham Lincoln presenter I have ever seen." (Dr. Theresa Avera, Title 1 Director, Federal Programs, Jasper, Tennessee)

"The impact of your portrayal as Abraham Lincoln on our students is sure to have long-lasting effects. It was truly a moving experience." (Judy Freeze, Principal, McBride Elementary School, Muscle Shoals, Alabama)

"The students and parents said, 'This is the best program that we have ever had in our school system'." (Paul Coggins, Supervisor, Wayne County Board of Education, Wayne County, Tennessee)

"The presentation was great, but the message was greater! We hope for you continued success in your endeavors to be a positive influence in the lives of students." (Larry Cantrell, Student Coordinator, Robertson County Alternative Program, Robertson County, Tennessee)
